Laguna Niguel to San Juan Capistrano Passing Siding
Location: Laguna Niguel and San Juan Capistrano, CA

Description: The project added 1.8 miles of passing siding railroad track between the Laguna Niguel/Mission Viejo Metrolink Station and Trabuco Creek in San Juan Capistrano, which runs adjacent to the existing track, allowing trains traveling in opposite directions to pass each other without stopping. The completed project reduces delays, increases safety, and provides more reliable rail service within the Los Angeles-San Diego rail corridor. Construction of the new siding track includes the following:
- Construction of new embankment and shifting of the existing mainline track
- New culvert at MP 194.6 replacing the existing timber trestle bridge
- Several culvert extensions, construction of several retaining walls
- Construction of a second track through the Rancho Capistrano Private Crossing and associated roadway work in Camino Capistrano to raise and modify the street to meet the new crossing profile and configuration
- Installation of new turnback track
- Removal and replacement of intertrack fencing
- Other miscellaneous work
